London

Buckingham Palace

Newport Junior School

Westfields Junior School

Hello again. This time from Portishead in England. A week’s gone by since the last post and so much has happened. Of course there’s never enough time to write posts and check emails but I’m trying!

We had a couple of days in London at North Islington Zone where I saw some really good interactive whiteboard ideas. The boards are very common in England and are a normal part of the daily routine in most classrooms. There’s a school here that would like to start emailing and doing some website related work with us. Lynda Maple visited our classroom in Otford earlier in the year and it was lovely to catch up with her again at Islington. Lynda and her team train and support the teachers in that part of London.

London is an incredible city. There are so many sights to see and wonderful things to do, but boy is it expensive. On Wednesday I caught a train out to Greensward College, east of London, and saw how a secondary college has created a Virtual Learning Environment to communicate with parents and kids at home. It’s fantastic what they’re doing. They’re able to see and work on any file that’s on the school fileserver from a home computer. No need for flash drives.

Then Jutta and I hired a car and it was off to Newport Junior School where they use a thumb scanner instead of a barcode reader when you borrow a book. Make sure you tell Mrs Leslie about the new system and we’ll have to get it. Newport use interactive whiteboards in really cool ways and it was great to pick up lots of good ideas about the boards and many other things as well.

Finally I visited Westfields Junior School where the similarities with Otford are enormous. They’re a much larger school but they concentrate on the same sorts of things that we do and it’s a really caring school. It was just like being at Carver Academy in LA again with Betty. One of the teachers, Simon, is keen to get some emails started between their older kids and Otford, so we’ll have even more e-pals. They have the world’s nicest looking library. Have a look in the photo.

Tomorrow I’ll be popping in on Nic at St Peter’s School in Portishead and I’ll take photos of some of the kids we started emailing months ago. I’m really looking forward to that.

There’s so much going on but that’s a snapshot of what I’ve been doing. Make sure you let me know what you’ve been doing too. Bye for now!

Sorry about not sending you any blogs because I've been away most of the times its been my turn but I've tried to get on at home but it did not work and did you catch a plane or a boat to england. We are doing a lot more artwork, probaly more than schoolwork so that's a lot better. Is it raining over there because its going really strange over here, its going rainy then dry.

Hi Mr Holmes,
It seames really fun over at London
Mr Holmes I was wondering if you could let us have even more pen-pals? Could we get some og the older kids in some of the schools? Do you still get some Australian shows over there? Could you bring us presents? We will be good (cough cough)
But that is only if you bring us presents. Mrs Broadbridge is really fun! She lets us do art all the time. She also dose freat sport. But sometimes you do beter sport. I hope you have a great time up there.

Hi Mr Holmes,
I like the pictures you sent us they're cool and the one I really like especially the one of Buckingham Palace. You know how you said that it's really expensive I agree my dad went there in Febuary this year for a month when he went around the world like your doing and he came back with not that much money and he said the reason was that it was expensive in England but he said it was really fantastic. I think it's awesome how they have thumb scanners instead of barcode scanners that will be cool if we got one here. And when the school gets the money as well as getting
the the thumb scanners it'll be cool if we got an interactive whiteboard for every class as well but if only one I would chose thumb scanner.

Bye for now hope you send us another blog.

From your sincerely,
Raman

Hi mrs holmes,

Hayden is sorry that he wrote mrs holmes on the blog he's kind of emmbaresed! any way umm the band is going good and we have got Johs.D and Darby as back up singers as well and for the first time there not being SILLY! And Josh.C has quit cause there was too much drama with the name but in the end Dopey thought of a name: The Black Angels. Mrs BroadBridge is still nice and we all still love the dippy bag. Can you do the dippy bag aswell when you get back. Also Regan lied when he said wehave free time and when Mrs BoadBridge found out that he said that she is now giving him math tests on Friday. The websites are goin good aswell. Our group hannah, Avalon, kate and I have still got about eight Prime Minimonkeys well I call them Minimonkeys because their hair is one thing and also because they all look like mokeys. You should down load the episodes of monkey magic my dad said he used to watch it when he was a kid and he liked it and then he downloaded it on his laptop and I like it heaps too, It's really funny because he disobays the buddah by eating pears than keep you alive for ever and then the buddah sends him back to earth and sticks him into a rock then about a thousand years later a little girl preist sets him freeonly if he promesed to be good but he tried to run but she put magic on him so when she says a spell it hurts him. oh well im not going to tell you any more cause i will ruin it!

From Your best student and only best student not the ones who say they are Kirstin.

P.S were are you headed next!?
